Hi Patty! I’m so pleased you found something that worked even if it was momentary. I bet it was a nice reprieve.
This whole year as I’ve turned (ahem) 40, I’ve found myself “unlocking new boundaries.”
Bedtimes, travel times, visit lengths, budget limits, what all I can squeeze into a day. It just doesn’t work like that anymore for me. Like moving up a level in a video game, I notice myself saying to Ben “guess what? I unlocked a new boundary! I cannot host someone for dinner and then meet a friend after and go to bed super late and then work the next day. Not happening again.” I have limitations and honoring them allows me to be happier and more giving at the things I am able to do.
And yes, there are needs to push past my comfort zone, etc. but not frequently and definitely not at the expense of snapping at my kids/husband.
Moving up a level in a video game is a great analogy. That's exactly what it feels like.
Thanks for sharing some of your boundaries. When I hear about other people's limitations, it always makes me feel better because I live with someone who doesn't have any (Todd is still an Eveready bunny). Even Grant once said, "Mom, I think you try to keep up with Dad and make yourself sick." Getting snappy is one of my barometers, too.
Thank you so much for sharing your insights. For the record, I'm still feeling better overall.
A few months after my “all clear” from pancreatic cancer; I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. After 8 months of a new infusion drug for Alzheimer’s I was declared “essentially clear.” Yet my short term memory is still very short. I’m learning to write everything down, assuming I will forget. And I give everyone permission to tell me when I’m repeating myself.
I replied to you up above, but put it in the wrong reply box. Speaking of not being clear-minded ... I love talking with you. I would never know that you have a diagnosis.
I appreciate your openness and vulnerability. We've got to have that with each other. Glad you are having some good days. I recently said that these days being 75 yrs old I have more time than energy now. Used to be the other way around. I'm accepting that. I know God knows my heart, so I don't beat myself up anymore when my mind has thought of more things to do than I have energy to do. Everything I do takes more time, that's the way God made me. Hugs everyone!
Glad you're accepting your limitations. When you said, "Everything I do takes more time," That really hit me. I've been feeling that way, too. I thought it was just me, but it probably happens to everyone as we get older. Thanks for the insights.
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m so grateful to hear your story. God is amazing. I’ve seen God’s miracles with my oldest daughter. We prayed for connection with her and after 3 years we’re talking and I’ve enjoyed my grandkids the last 3 weeks
You’re funny. I’m amazed and inspired by how well you’re doing. Anytime we talk, you sound like your intelligent, articulate self. I’ll pray it stays that way!

… Have I already written this? 😉

The timing is interesting because I stumbled on the passage where David's men are thinking of stoning him .
And in that she story some of the men ran out of strength but David protects their prom and honor
That’s a great passage. I never thought about applying it to my own situation. Good insight.
