Prayer goes beyond just developing a discipline. This installment of my series on prayer unpacks some of the intense faith issues that affect our prayers.

The consequences of addiction forced our baby granddaughter, who has severe medical needs, to live with us. Overnight, our lives radically changed.

Although loving Charlotte brings immense joy, her unsuccessful surgeries, cardiac issues, and the circumstances that brought her to us break my heart. At times, I don’t feel like praying because anger and hurt roar so loud that I no longer hear the faithful thoughts that have sustained me in the past. But I’m learning how to fight through my doubts. Each time, it’s a little easier.

Heroin had come to our doorstep

A few years ago, our son moved home to get clean. I like giving God suggestions, so I devised the perfect solution to help my son. I prayed that no matter what, he would not be able to find heroin. I knew God wouldn’t force him to stay clean, but I thought God could dry up the supply, so if tempted to relapse, he wouldn’t be able to find heroin.
